Cosy Corner Torquay: calm water, playgrounds and picnic tips

A practical visitor guide to Cosy Corner and Torquay Front Beach — parking, swimming and nearby food.

Cosy Corner sits at the sheltered southern end of Torquay Front Beach, tucked toward Point Danger. On a windy Surf Coast day it’s often the calmest water in town — which is why families, ocean swimmers and first-timers love it.

What you’ll find

  • Shallow, usually gentler water than Torquay Surf Beach (always judge conditions yourself).
  • Grassed picnic areas, BBQs, toilets and the Cosy Corner Playground (Surf Coast Shire).
  • Angle parking along The Esplanade — arrive early in summer.

Swim safe

Front Beach is moderated compared with the Back Beach, but rips and reefs still exist. Swim between the flags when Torquay Surf Life Saving Club is on patrol, and check Beachsafe for hazard ratings. For general coastal advice see Visit Victoria.

Pair it with…

Coffee on the Esplanade (see our eat & drink list), a wander to Point Danger, or a beginner lesson via our learn to surf guide. Planning a longer drive? Read Great Ocean Road from Torquay.
